After buying chicken from the butchers, do you have the habit of washing it before cooking? Scientists have warned that washing chicken before cooking is not the right thing to do. They have warned not to do so as to prevent the contamination of kitchen with bacteria called Campylobacter. The bacteria is most common bacteria for food po!$oning, which can cause $erious health problem as well as de@th. Splashed water droplets can spread Campylobacter bacteria on to human skin, work surfaces, clothing and cooking equipment said FSA.
The Food Standards Agency said, ‘While most cases result in people $uffering from abdominal pain, severe diarrhoea and vomiting, some cases can result in more significant health issues.’ Catherine Brown chief executive of FSA said: “Although people tend to follow recommended practice when handling poultry, such as washing hands after touching raw chicken and making sure it is thoroughly cooked, our research has found that washing raw chicken is also common practice. That’s why we’re calling on people to stop washing raw chicken and also raising awareness of the ri$k$ of contracting Campylobacter as a result of cross-contamination.”
